NEST Collective presents 'The Stories Of Our Lives'
18 September 2014
In summer 2013, Nest Collective - Nairobi-based multidisciplinary arts collective began collecting and archiving the stories of persons identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex from Kenya.
The project called ‚Stories of Our Lives‘ - wanted to tell stories that are not often heard, stories that characterize the queer experience in Kenya.
After several months of touring and collecting hundreds of vivid, compelling stories, ten-member association of artists, social workers and entrepreneurs decided to turn some of these stories into short films that premiered on the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.
The NEST Collective are (in alphabetical order): George Aloo, Jim Chuchu, Sunny Dolat, George Gachara, Noel Kasyoka, Dan Muchina, Wilfred Mwangi, Wangechi Ngugi, Njoki Ngumi and Wakiuru Njuguna.
