15 October 2025

Created in 2011, this Bahian government agency promotes and supports popular and identity-based cultural events throughout the state, many of African, Gypsy and indigenous origin. One example is Bembé do Mercado, a street celebration held in the town of Santo Amaro da Purificação since the late 19th century, and which currently brings together more than 40 candomblé terreiros from the Recôncavo Baiano region. CCPI headquarters, located in Salvadors historic city center, also hosts exhibitions, such as an exhibit in honor of anthropologist Lélia Gonzalez (1935-1994), a forerunner of black feminism in Brazil.
